New Video (Kind of)

Well, it’s been quite a while since I have posted anything. I finally posted a new video last night. Thing is, it’s not really new, since I recorded it several months ago and for some reason never posted it. Anyway, here it is. I actually think it came out quite good. I really like the tone.

Please leave me some feedback!

New Video and some tips on learning solos

Well, I’ve posted another video. It is a cover of Ravenous by Arch Enemy. It seems by the messages I’ve been getting back is that some people love Arch Enemy and some people hate them. I absolutely think they are great. I love how the Amott brothers create awesome guitar parts that fit so perfectly with each other. I almost wanted to make this a dual guitar cover because of all the awesome harmonies, but I decided to do a combination of both Michael and Chris’ parts. Arch Enemy songs are actually pretty hard to cover because of all the little intricate things that the guitarists do that give them a very unique and defined sound. All the whammy bar stuff is really hard to duplicate, and most tabs on the Internet don’t even bother to put those parts in, so I just do my closest approximation.

This song also has a really fast solo which I was convinced I wasn’t gonna be able to play. Granted, after lots of practice my cover still wasn’t perfect, but at least I was able to play the damn thing at full speed and it didn’t sound like total crap. Still, I admit that it wasn’t a very good solo on my part. I’ve only started playing fast solos very recently. I was always very intimidated by stuff like this so I avoided it as much as possible. Only now have I started venturing into stuff that once scared the shit out of me. So, I give myself props for trying, but the solo wasn’t very good.

A little tip to the people that use Guitar Pro:

Select a certain part of the song that you need to practice on (such as a solo) that you aren’t able to play at full speed. Then, push F9. Sometimes you have to push it twice, I’m not sure why. You will get a popup that looks like this:

Guitar Pro 5 Speed Trainer

Guitar Pro 5 Speed Trainer Feature

Select “Speed Trainer” at the top, and for tempo input your starting tempo and ending tempo. The starting tempo should be at a speed that you are comfortable playing, and the end tempo should be how fast you want to learn to play. For me, these two numbers were 50% and 100%. Then, set the percentage that you want the speed to increase by after every loop. I always use 1%. Now, hit OK and make sure to leave your selection intact. When you hit play, the song will start playing at your beginning tempo (50%) and every time it restarts it will go up by 1%. This is a fantastic tool to learn solos, as it gradually gets you up to speed. I will usually play up to a speed at which I start to make lots of mistakes, stop the loop, set the speed to a few percentage points lower, and practice at that speed until I can play perfectly. Once I can do that, I will start the speed trainer again. This is an excellent way to learn very fast stuff like guitar solos. The constant repetition helps build muscle memory, and the gradual increases make the transition from slow to fast much more easy to overcome. I hope this little tip helps, as I didn’t even know about this feature up until a few weeks ago.

ROCK ON! \m/

New Cover!

Hey again! I finally managed to learn a Protest the Hero song! It was really hard, but I put lots of effort in and managed to pull it off. Granted, it is one of their easier songs, but I still consider it a personal achievement. My guitar tone kinda sucks, though. I wasn’t really paying attention to the tone at all.

Also, the tab is up in the Tabs section!

New Video and New Tabs

I finally got around to updating the tabs section, and I added 8 new tabs. Also, I put up a new video on my YouTube channel. Yes, it’s another Lamb of God song. I saw that I didn’t do any songs from the Wrath album, so I decided to do Set to Fail. It is a very fun song to play, and is pretty simple.
